Settlement Project Speeches and Events in the San Francisco Bay Area, November 2023

The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) hosted a seminar on Education for the 21st Century: Challenges, Moral Dangers, and Innovation from 10 am until noon, at the Bay Area Family Church, and later that evening The Alameda County Committee of Restoration (ACCOR) held a graduation ceremony for graduates of its 10-week course on the US Bill of Rights, in the home of Michael and Monika Kellett. Dr. Kaufmann offered the Keynote address in the morning seminar and graduation congratulatory remarks and speech content in the evening ceremony.

Settlement Project Speech at UPF Seminar: Toxic Polarization in America: What’s To Be Done?

This particular gathering focuses on media, perhaps as in part responsible for our current shameful ugliness, as well as on ways media might contribute toward needed healing. My first premise is that our world is full of  noble, courageous, journalists ready to give their lives to honor truth-telling for the sake of a better world. Although I admire honorable journalists and am grateful for the indispensable service they offer, I myself try to avoid them and have as little to do with them as possible.

The Path to Violence, and the Responsibility of the Citizen.

There are now two active, world-level wars cursing our planet, the Russia-Ukraine War, and the Israel-Hamas War. These are happening during a period in which the perennial symbol for the harmonization of international differences, the United States of America has sunk into unimaginable internal strife in which the US government is holding political prisoners, and efforts are being made to imprison opposition party political candidates. Imprisoning political opposition is the characteristic of primitive, unstable dictatorships.

Friendships and Brotherly Love

There are many similarities between having a true friend, and a good elder brother, but the subtle differences are significant. The same freedoms can eventually arise, the same bonds of loyalty can evolve, and the same ease it would take to give one’s life for the other also can characterize both relationships. .

AI and the Singularity by Frank Kaufmann

AI seemed to burst into our lives suddenly. One day it seemed not to exist at all, and the following day it seemed to exist everywhere, in countless inscrutable forms, brands and promises. It instantly seemed to erupt a class of people as immersed in AI as fully as the rest of us count on our eyes to see. There’s the Chatbot app itself, the people, the companies, and as suddenly a billowing industry of experts, programs, seminars, and teachers and trainers.
